“Back on familiar terrain Saturday will be hundreds of former students and NSC fans who will return to participate in another Homecoming celebration and to renew old ties. The student body will drop all classes on that day in order to give the returning alums the biggest welcome possible.” Current Sauce, October 23, 1951 (and, YES, there were Saturday morning classes!)
The parade, one of the largest ever staged for a Demon homecoming, had ten floats and also included the Northwestern Band, the Natchitoches high school band, and marching units of the ROTC and the Air Force.
Queen Glynn Ellen Pennington and her maids, Mamie Schoonoer, Sarah Cook, Leila Lenahan, Nelwyn Boydstun, Peggy Forbes and Betty Jean Thompson led the parade of ten floats.
Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority’s “NSC, Pearl of All” captured first place and a prize of $100. Second place money of $35 went to Alpha Sigma Alpha who successfully carried out the theme “Through the Years.” The Industrial Arts group’s “Best Wishes to All” was third best with $15 to the good.
At noon the power plant was dedicated to Mr. W. T. Trisler, long time Northwestern employee.
The Demons did not fare well in the 2:30 pm gridiron confrontation with a loss of 33-14 to the Lions from Southeastern in Hammond.
The Homecoming Dance was in the Student Union at 8:30 pm with the local campus group, the Demonaires, providing big band music for students and alumni returning to campus.
